The Big G (Google) is introducing a new algorithm change that affects how mobile search results appear YAY! another change small business owners need to be worried about — a significant change that will take anywhere from several days to several months to roll out.

So what does this all mean? When you do a Google search on a mobile device, Google will prioritise the search results with websites that they deem ‘mobile-friendly’ — ones that do not have software like Flash and feature larger text for easy reading, easy-to-click links and a responsive design. Sites that aren’t up to scratch will supposedly appear lower in search results.

For small biz owners like yourself it’s a a great kick in the pants to make things happen and get up to speed with your online presence. Otherwise, not be found at all in the search results.

Did you know that 75% of your visitors to your site, are using a mobile device.
Imagine not being visible to them?

Its important to understand if you are serious about your business for the future you need to be aligned with someone who has their ear to the ground. Who knows their shiz.

Not just anyone will be able to make this happen for you.
If you know your website is not Google ‘mobile friendly’ or you wan’t me to check it for you Click Here pop your details down and we can have a chat to see if I can help you.

After all your website should be a huge generator of enquiries for you. If its not, then why not make it be a huge source of traffic? and make it a mobile friendly website whilst your at it.

Don’t become a statistic. Make contact now with me and I will give you a complimentary website health check.

Google+ Has Died & Gone To Social Media Heaven

As a competitor to Facebook and Twitter Google+ did its best to compete.

As a Social Media badass I always was torn on whether to use it in a capacity that I would be required to invest a lot of time into it. I primarily use Facebook for lead generation and you know what, I was genuinely excited to hear about Google+ when it launched, but I was shortly to be disappointed.

Google+ started out as their own interpretation of consolidation. They wanted to combine the way we used their Photos and Communications products.

Like most new social platforms all the hardcore bloggers jumped across and gave it a whirl only to find out that it wasn’t as intuitive as they were used to with FB & Twitter. It was clunky, slightly outdated in its design and seemed to be hamstrung with its connection to each other.

Now the folks at Google have confirmed rumours that they will be killing off certain aspects of Google+ and splitting the Photos and Communication streams up.

Gone are the days of trying to leverage your Google+ profile and your authorship for better search engine results and seo tactics.

I am almost thinking..

Why should we invest much time in building profiles, connections, and communities if we’ll soon have do it all again when they come up with another product for us?

Don’t get me wrong, I am a massive Google fan. I make sure I am on the invite list to all their latest releases, Gmail, Google+ Their New Inbox etc.

Maybe this split will breathe new life and bring some much needed inspiration to their product development team?

Meanwhile I wouldn’t suggest that you completely abandon them, until we know entirely what they are up to.

It is Google after all.

How many of you wish you could just buy all the beautiful, uber cool and gorgeous heels, handbags, clothes you see on Pinterest? Not me, welll err not handbags and heels. Perhaps gadgets, and books for me lol.

Well that dream may soon become a reality. Yep you read that correctly. Rumours have it that Pinterest are working on a ‘Buy Now’ button that will allow fellow pinners to purchase specific pins. So if you are a make-up company for example You may have a board dedicated to organic foundation and you could add a ‘buy now’ button to each item and therefore reach the masses of 70+ Million users worldwide.

Supposedly Recode reckon, By clicking the buy button, Pinterest users would be able to purchase products they pinned, however, Pinterest wouldn’t have any control of the sellers’ inventory, and would simply provide a way to purchase the items a user was pinning. The actual order processing would be performed by the seller.

According to recent statistics, over 60% of Pinterest’s user base is female, meaning the new button is going to bring a lot of opportunity and chance to market to women.

Pinterest are not alone in this area of Social Commerce r&d.. Twitter and Facebook are also attempting to tap into that untouched market and are yet to launch something officially. I’m sure it will end up being a battle of the Social Media Giants.

So if your looking to make use of the Pinterest Buy Now Button and your Ideal Perfect Client is a woman, 25-50 and you have a physical product that you can ship. You need to get your pinterest boards up and running with professional looking product shots, your keywords optimised and your followers engaged because this may just be the very platform to kick off the Social Commerce movement I keep banging on about.

One of the changes made to Facebook this year was going to be the addition of a ‘Call To Action’ button.

This button is meant to help Page admins and business owners get a little more traction from those visiting their Facebook page. Cause after all Facebook has fucked our reach these days!

The Facebook Call To Action Button was rolled out in the US and UK at the end of last year, it has now hit Australian users as of today.

Below is how you can set it up for your page.

Step 1 – Located at the bottom of your pages cover image is the ‘Create Call-To-Action’ button. It should be located besides the like/d button. You will need to go to your actual page in your browser. Not on you mobile mind you. Then click on the Create Call-To-Action button.

Step 2 – This is where you choose the type of call to action you want to give, the website you are going to send them when the call to action is clicked and if you have a separate site address that is mobile friendly then you can put this in here also under the mobile website section. (you shouldnt need this if you have a modern site. Most developers these day automatically build responsive websites – where the website code responds and loads based on knowing what device you are on when viewing the site).

Make sure you choose the best wording for the button. Choose what best suits the type of action you want the prospect to do, eg download if you have a report or something to physically download, sign-up if you are sending them to your opt-in for your list.

Step 3 – Pretty easy choice here. Where will you send them if they are clicking the button on an iPhone or iPad device? If the button is either going to be sending your prospect to a website or to an app.

You will then have to do the same for an android device on the next screen.

Step 4 – Boom-Shucka-Lucka! Your Call-To-Action button is now created and ready to use.

Personally? I <del>would </del> have created a whole new funnel just for this call to action so I can measure just how many people are using the physical button. You do have access to the stats from Facebook they will appear on the right hand side of your cover image above the page likes stats section.

Just remember though that just adding the CTA button to your Facebook page will not increase traffic to your website. Driving Facebook users to a webpage or app requires a social media strategy that uses all available marketing channels (email, social media, your website, etc.)

That said, the cost of adding it to your page (the three minutes it takes to create it) is worth at least testing it on your Page and seeing how you go.

P.S Come on over to my Facebook page and introduce yourself.

Having Trouble With All The Negative Storytelling You Are Doing?

Negative all the time?

I have a mini challenge for you…
Because a lot of people I have been speaking to lately all have one thing in common.

You have to get out of your own way. So here is how I recovered from what I call NFS – Negative Fairytale Syndrome (my self diagnosis).

You have to start at the very beginning.
Be honest with yourself! Forget everyone else for a minute..

Are you happy?
Are you enjoying what you are doing for a living? Whether it is a day job or you are creating your legacy.

Peel it back, when you think about your day starting do you look forward to it, or do you moan and groan at the thought of getting up and at em.

My suggestion to you if you are not excited about things, starting a new day, or find yourself being negative all the time is to do these three things.

1- Get grateful, yep I know what you are thinking… your kidding right? Do you know how many people are all positive and hocus-pocus right now its doing my head in? haha yes. Yes i hear you but you know what? it works!

So find three things at the end of the day that you are grateful for. It might be you are grateful for the warm hugs from your children or partner, the warming sunshine, the nutritious and healthy food your family has access to, it might be for the smile you got from a stranger, the smell of gardenias wafting as you enter the driveway or that glass of wine you consumed with dinner.

Make sure you do this at night as you are getting ready for bed. After a few days of doing this in a row you will find you sleep better, wake up happier and in general feel a lot lighter.

2- Try and become aware of when you are telling yourself those negative stories in your head. Like, oh here we go again, or that would be right, I can’t do that, or bad luck comes in three. Why me? When you are aware of this negative story telling it becomes easier to stop it in its tracks.
When you pick yourself up doing this say to yourself, shutup negative nancy! and turn that thought into something more positive. You could say. Yay another opportunity to learn something, wow this is going to be a challenge lets give it a go.
After several days of doing this you will start re-training your thought pattern to be more productive and positive.

3- Breathe. Practise taking deep breaths when you feel yourself having a moment. You know the moment where you have not stopped the negative talk going on in your head in time and its reaching that point where you start to feel funny in your tummy. Just breathe. Take 3 long Deep breaths. Re-frame it with a positive thought and move on! The breathing stops those negative thoughts from festering and turning into complete overwhelm.

These 3 steps are what I use daily to increase the health of my mind and overcoming anxiety. I have been practising these religiously everyday for almost a year now and my mind automatically stops the negative shit my mind used to feed off, all by itself. Its like all of a sudden my mind is a muscle and all it has to do now is flex! Plus I write my gratefuls down in a little book, its really quiet mind blowing to see where I started.

So give these tips a go for a week. You might just find you want to do them daily moving forward Report back to me I would really love to hear how you go.

So starting right now. Tonight!
3 things you are grateful for.

I would love it, if you would come on over to my Facebook page and share with me what YOUR 3 are for tonight. Just click here to do that.

xx

Rumour has it that Facebook’s LinkedIn equivalent could be released as soon as January. Wow! Did you even see that coming?

The Wall Street Journal reported that Facebook is developing a professional version, which will let users converse and collaborate with colleagues.

‘Facebook at Work’ is expected to be released without advertising, and would like to think it can compete with LinkedIn.

LinkedIn has over 332 million users and a signup rate of 2 new users per second. That’s 120 signups a minute.

The staff over at Facebook are currently testing the work version right now! It is believed that when folks return from holidays it will be rolled out in the new year.

This new platform of Facebook might even be a threat to Microsoft SharePoint or even Google Docs allowing document collaboration between staff.

Allowing only work related posts it wouldn’t be intertwined to the original Facebook we are all fond of. It would be a separate platform for professional use.

Will you be using the new platform? Hell Yes! You better be.

Are YOU seeing the option to create and save draft posts for your business page that occurred today?

I just noticed this change when I went to start typing in the status update area and clicked off it . Up popped a little hover message pointing to the new feature.

Then to manage your drafts you can do so under the activity tab at the top of your page in the admin area.

Cool Huh? So get drafting. no excuses.

Facebook introduced an exciting new change finally to our business pages.

We can adjust the post attribute now, when posting and commenting now easily change between posting as you, your page, or ANY other page you are an admin of.

Have you got this feature yet? do you like it?

You can now get a little more organic exposure if you occasionally post as your page on others pages.

This will help us stay a little more connected.

A nice tweak if I do say so myself.

Do your videos Auto Play in your Facebook news feed?

Do you mind It? I get really frustrated by actually. There is nothing worse than scrolling through your news feed and before you know it there is a hideous noise blaring from your phone.

Its annoying right? I hate it, here’s the thing, my biggest issue is; I do a lot of travelling for work and I spend a hell of a lot of time sitting in airports, taxis, hotels, meeting rooms, freaking out that there has to be a power point handy. My trusty iPhone, is with me 24/7. In one hand is my bff iPhone and in my back pocket a charger.

Despite having wifi & bluetooth turned off, the screen so dark I can barely read it in an attempt to save some battery power then along comes Facebook with their ‘auto play’ video function. ARRGGH!!

Seriously, you would expect them to have that ability which is a cool function but to enable it by default? Then to have it re-instate after every update of the Facebook Mobile App is just damn frustrating.

Not only are they hogging your mobile bandwidth they are draining your phones battery. I have turned them off! Said NO to auto play! I have also seen a decent increase of up to 10% in battery power since making this change.

I get asked this question a lot so I figured I would create a quick tutorial on how to change this setting for iPhone users.

to “Turn off Facebook’s ‘autoplay video’ setting in your phone”

Step 1 – Navigate to the settings menu on your phone

Step 2 – Scroll till you see the Facebook icon & click on it

Step 2 – Then to settings under that menu, toggle the ‘auto-play’ under video to OFF!

This will save you burning through your monthly mobile data allowance and phone battery..

If you enjoy this tip, feel free to share the love and share it on Facebook

Facebook has again updated their algorithm..

Becoming more and more like Google putting the fear of god into Facebook page manager.

Remember there is a particular role of Facebook which is to ensure consistent delivery of relevant news stories.

To get this relevancy they have to decide for us what stories we would want to see on a regular basis.

That’s a huge task! Let’s say for example every person logs on each day to facebook, there can be over 1500 new stories since the last time you checked your news feed.

Anything from your work colleagues massive all nighter, to their neighbors grandsons first birthday, to your BFF complicated relationship status change and the selfie of you and your new puppy going viral with your friends, their friends and then some!

So amongst the mix you also have in there the occasional business page update about their super dooper flash sale or their latest promotion and that we should get on it now!!

All whilst the pages you actually want to see updates from, gets lost in Facebooks desire of self help to maintain the news feed with as much relevance as possible to us!

That’s all good and well and as more and more people each day flock to the social media leader they have to continue to make micro adjustments regularly.

The time is finally here to remove “click baiting” it’s been a long time coming.

A lot of page owners and managers are freaking out and wanting to rally up their tribes and sing kumbaya my lord around their smart devices!

This can only be a good thing. You see, click and link baiting is deceptive, it’s where you promote one thing to encourage a click through to a link and you don’t deliver on what the intention of the headline offers. Or you ask your reader to comment rather than writing compelling and resonating content where the reader actually wants to comment on their own accord.

So before and after shots are a big contributor I’ve seen reputable companies do a before shot of a renovation and then entice a user to click through to see the after shot when really the article they have linked through hardly even justifies the clicking motion!

Facebook is determining themselves on what they classify as a click/link bait intention. Its based on the number of moments someone spends on the actual article itself obviously the longer one stays on the article page the more likely it is they are reading the actual content of that story.

Have you ever clicked on a story that someone has shared with a real catchy headline that has made you think oh wow yes please i want to know the answer to that? then you have clicked through only to go oh please! what a crock of shit and you go straight back to Facebook. There you have it that time frame you spent from the moment you clicked on the article link to the moment you returned to Facebook says it all!

What does click or link baiting mean for Facebook Pages?

It means you should be fine if you are treating your content correctly.

It means that if you are being authentic to your fans and readers you should see an increase in Facebook reach and traffic.

It means you should be promoting your own articles and pulling traffic back to your own website.

It means you need to BLOG!!

It means you can still share links from other pages however you need to ensure that what your sharing is a genuine article not some catchy headline that will generate that click metric a lot of social media experts have been craving.

It means you need to be blogging!!!!!

It means you need to be blogging!!!!!

Did i mention? it means you need to be blogging!!!!!

What to stay updated with all things Social? Then make sure you have liked My Social Synergy page THEN hover your mouse over the like button and a menu will appear.. click get notifications tadaaaaa! Done.
